Tiago Aguiar was born in Serro, MG, Brazil, with roots also in Cape Cod, MA, USA, where his family migrated in the late ’80s. He lives and works out of Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil, spending regular work periods in Serro and Hyannis. Tiago holds a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Guignard School in Belo Horizonte (MG) and a specialization in photography from the Hallmark Institute of Photography in Turner Falls, MA, USA. He researches ritual performative action as a process of affecting himself and others, using labor work as a language and structure. Since 2010, he has been working on a portrait series focused on an iconic religious festival that portrayis layers of early Brazil’s complex racial structures. Parts of this series have resulted in solo shows, group shows, and urban art installations.
